Our Story
Boutique Whitaker was founded by Irina and Dan Whitaker in 2014, born from a frustration with impersonal chain shopping and a love of well-made clothes.
Irina Whitaker spent twelve years working as a buyer for a Bucharest retailer before returning to her hometown of Galați with a simple ambition: open a boutique where the owner still serves behind the counter. She and her husband Dan renovated the ground floor of a 1920s building on Strada Domnească — preserving the original timber floors and arched windows — and painted the walls the warm midnight-coral shade that has become the shop's visual signature. Their daughter, Alina, joined the team in 2019 and brings a younger sensibility to the buying process, ensuring the collections speak to customers across generations. Today, Boutique Whitaker is a genuine family operation: Irina leads buying, Dan manages logistics and supplier relationships, and Alina handles in-store styling and the seasonal refresh programme.

We do not hire seasonal staff and leave the shop to them. At least one Whitaker is present during every opening hour. This is non-negotiable for us — it's the foundation of the consistent experience we've promised since 2014.
At least 40% of our stock at any given time comes from Romanian designers and producers. We find them at trade fairs, follow their work online, and visit their ateliers when we can. Supporting local craft isn't a trend for us — it's a sourcing principle.
If something doesn't suit you, we will say so — diplomatically, but clearly. We would rather lose a sale than have you leave with something you'll regret. The customers who appreciate this come back, and that relationship is worth more than any individual transaction.
We buy locally when we can, sponsor the annual Galați Design Week student showcase, and hire only from within the city. We are a Galați business, not a branch operation, and the city's culture shapes everything we stock.

The boutique occupies 85 square metres at street level in one of Galați's most characterful streets. The interior was designed by Irina herself, with guidance from a local architect, to feel like a well-kept living room: warm midnight-coral walls, original timber flooring, brass fixtures, and generous natural light through the arched front windows. There are two fitting rooms, each with full-length mirrors and proper lighting that doesn't lie. The rails are never overcrowded — we keep the floor density low so that browsing feels considered rather than overwhelming. A small corner table with coffee and water is always available while you browse or wait for an accompanying friend to decide.
We're on Strada Domnească 47, open Monday to Saturday. No booking needed to browse — just walk in.
